The MIDI version of song "Land Beyond Dreams" from King's Quest VII appears to have a verse that is missing from the digital version. I was puzzled about this for a long time, and never learned the reason for this peculiarity until now.
I recently had the amazing luck to find the increasingly rare Roberta Williams Anthology in a thrift store, which includes scans of various design sketches from KQ7, including a storyboard for the intro -- and that storyboard includes Rosella singing the missing verse!
Rather than merely describing my discovery on various message boards, I decided to share the joy by compiling the sketches of the storyboard into a video synced with the "Land Beyond Dreams" MIDI and uploading it to YouTube, where it would undoubtedly reach a larger audience.
By the way, one of the storyboard frames that appears during the song is missing, so I inserted a blank placeholder with the accompanying lyrics.

Oh -- when Avril126 asked about the original version, I assumed she meant the version that included the missing verse (the segment you mentioned). Of course, you can hear the version without that verse in both the intro and the credits.
I really like the unused verse, it really calls back to Rosella's decision (regarding Edgar) in KQIV. It emphasizes the fact that she's not a 'selfish brat' (like a lot of people seem to think) but an independent girl who just isn't ready to settle down and wait for her 'happily ever after'.
You're very welcome. I never really understood why Rosella is sometimes labeled as selfish, either. Fiercely independent, yes, but selfish...not so much.
Thank you. I doubt that there is a version with the missing lyrics out there, but it would certainly be interesting if there was.
As for superior intros, I'm sure some people would consider KQ6's intro as being the best of the series, not to mention the most technologically advanced, with those 3D graphics.
I wish they would have kept the "I'm not prepared to set my freedom on the shelf" line .... the music builds a bit here for perhaps emphasis in the midi version... and it's a nice moment that shows Rosella's spunk and independence.
