This small film clip shows a young female long jumper demonstrating a STRIDE long jump technique.
In my opinion, after coaching jumps for over 30 years this style should be introduced in the initial early skill learning period because once learned and performed well, leads on to the other styles of long jumping [hang and hitch].
This young female has now changed her style from a STRIDE to a HANG. I shall post a short video soon so that you can see her progress.
NEW: August 2nd 2010 - Changing to the hang didn't work out so we have reverted back to the STRIDE JUMP.
BUT there has been a positive to this. In learning how to hang from an established stride style has now given her a stride/hang jump which has resulted in her winning a national age group title [U17] and jumping a personal best performance.
All she does now is to 'hold on' to the stride a little bit longer before shaping herself into a traditional hang style prior to landing. This extra 'hold' off the board is attaining an extra 10-15cms.
