Right on the heels of the Jean Chalopin/Andy Heyward cartoon comes the inevitable video game for the arcades. Basically Ikari Warriors with a ghost-catching theme.. plus, you don't get to ride any vehicles. Well, not during gameplay, anyway. Not terrible, but not my cup of tea.. too much like many other vertically-scrolling adventures.

Funny sidenote.. to avoid any confusion with the crappy Filmation cartoon "Ghostbusters" they had to change the newer cartoon to "The Real Ghostbusters". The actual movie came out before the Filmation cartoon, and fans were bitching that it had nothing to do with the movie. This was intentional, as it was actually based on a Sid and Marty Kroft live action kids show, with 2 guys and an ape named Tracy, from 1975-76. It was called "Ghost Busters".

  • if these are the "real" ghostbusters, where are the fake ones ?

  • @NadrianATRS

This title came from the cartoon series, which at the time was so named to avoid confusion (and a lawsuit) with another cartoon called Ghost Busters, which came out before the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. It came out AFTER the movie Ghostbusters, but was based on an old Sid and Marty Kroft series of the mid-seventies, which was live-action. So maybe, in essence, the "Real" Ghostbusters are the fake ones. But I've seen the other Ghost Buster series and they're deservedly forgotten.

  • another funny thing is that in TRG, Venkman's voice was done by the late Lorenzo Music, who also did the voice of Garfield in Garfield and Friends. coincidentially, Bill Murray who played Venkman in the movies did the voice of Garfield in the live action Garfield in 2004.

  • I know.. I used to like his soothing, laid-back voice. He voiced Venkman for the first 2 seasons, followed by Dave Coulier of Full House. Egon was voiced by Maurice LaMarche, who did Brain from Pinky and the Brain. Frank Welker did Ray Stantz and Slimer, and Arsenio Hall voiced Winston for 3 seasons, then by Buster Jones, who voiced Blaster on the Transformers.

  • Wow... did the art director for this game ever stopped and look at what this looked like? Makes me feel dizzy. Everything is crooked and confusing.
