Some AutoCAD'ers prefer to have each object type on a different layer. i.e. buildings on the building layer etc. If you want to put each descriptive group on a different layer you can also do this in the import window. Select the ellipsis in the corresponding Drawing Layer column (note, the ellipsis button only appears after first selecting the cell to edit). From here select "Use data field for layer name:" and choose 'DescriptiveGroup'. Each map type now appears on the corresponding layer :)

can you import digimap data into 3ds max and extrude buildings to make a 3d model?

@PowderpuffPuncher If you convert the data to DXF format we are pretty sure that you can use it in 3ds Max. You will need to source the building height data from a different data supplier though. We know that Landmap (a Mimas service) has some building heights though not for every town in the UK. We hope this helps, good luck with your project.
