Why do Facebook and Apple app companies do this?

I really hate when companies autopost to my feeds without showing me first what they are posting and giving me the option whether or not to post it. This example is from an app titled Glassmap (sorry for getting that wrong in the video). I cover what happened here: https://www.facebook.com/RobertScoble/posts/10150623837049655

  • deepsea777: I looked at the screen several times before I even saw what you are talking about. Hiding a checkbox at the bottom of a screen is NOT acceptable.

  • I totally agree! However, this affects not only Apple apps but applies to Android apps too. Perhaps you could change the title to reflect that as well. I'm sure they don't like this either.

  • I completely agree, facebook should have a red marker around the Publish dialogue. To make people more aware. Its unbelievable how many idiots actually don't look at the dialogues.

  • Very informative, thanks Scoble

  • Absolutely agreed! The universal fix wouldn't be easy, but Facebook could make the "Post to Facebook as me" functionality only accessible to developers who sign a legal agreement with Facebook promising to present a post at least once before sending it/them out. Then the untrustworthy developers only have functions like the Like button to use, which should be adequate for MOST legitimate API usage anyway.

  • BOOM-- HEADSHOT

  • Man I love your passion. This is exactly what Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is fighting for, the legalize, the violent behavior of corporations, the deception...it has to stop. I COMPLETELY agree. Dude...major points for the cute kid in the back, laughing at daddy getting mad. Schweeet!!!

  • This is a big problem with apps on the phone, as well as sites which use facebook credentials to provide access to content by means of a facebook app. That is why I've stopped using my facebook credentials to log in to many websites, opting instead to use the old route of providing a separate username and password along with my e-mail id.

  • Actually, as a result of this video, I've now gone into my foursquare settings and switched off all the Facebook notifications. It's been bothering me for ages, so now I've finally done something about it.

The problem, though, is that those settings are ON by default, and I've got to turn them off. As Robert says, they should be asking me first, rather than assuming yes and making me change it to no.

  • FourSquare do this with every Badge I earn - it automatically goes into my Facebook feed, even if I have marked the check in itself as 'do not share on facebook'. Sometimes, I'd rather not share with everyone in my Facebook feed that I just became the Mayor of somewhere!

  • you that kid is very cute LOL

  • well done Scoble thnx for the video . all those apps are sucks . including Path too
