The trainer didn't give Deep Impact the best preparation. The Arc is the most challenging 2400m in throughbred racing, and no horse can win it first up after a 6 month spell. On top of that it was a second rate ride by the jockey. He just failed, and the later disqualification was dubious. It was a sad way for the great horse to end his reign.
