  • true, the bending techniques in the 12 string sanjo gayageum are hard to play together with other instruments - but it is possible - in things like shinawi. Also the very old, court style gayageum also has 12 strings, and is ONLY played in court ensembles, and it sounds good...

I guess it's a matter of taste... but 25 string stuff lacks any real depth... it just sounds like an advertisement, or something to play in a hotel elevator or bathroom

  • While the 12 string may be more culturally relevant, The 25 string is much more appealing to the ears.

Frankly, Unless it's played alone, I'd have to go as far to say that the Gayageum is a very unattractive sounding instrument, unfit for recording.

It's only value, in my opinion, is that of a reminder of what happened before it became useful.

  • hmn.. interesting. i don't think the Korean music doesn't have any relation with Kabuki though, , i know what you feel.. (yes, actually it reminds me of Nagauta or Gin'ei..) this is very nice music anyway. also looks very sophisticated with complicated techniques.

  • I don't think those attempts are just crappy.

  • very nice introduction to REAL gayageum playing... not that crappy fusion stuff

  • It reminds me KABUKI.
