Percy Rodrigues & Eartha Kitt Ben Casey (1965)

Dramatic clip showing the late great Eartha's range as an actress. As
an alcoholic doctor's wife prone to miscarriages, she is superb. Percy
Rodrigues is equal as her physician husband. Much has been written
about Percy as the "First African American" Doctor on TV in Peyton
Place. It may be true. But this was 3 years before he joined the cast
of that nighttime soap. It may very well have been his audition reel!

@tubeeorrnottubee Your age at the time makes the memory even more precious. I am very happy and somewhat envious of you for having so valuable a memory. Percy was very important at that time in that he

quietly, but definitely chose roles that defied racial stereotypes. He consistently portrayed strength and

confidence whether he portrayed "good guy" or villainous roles. He was very important, and is sorely missed.

@galesayers ~ I did, but unfortunately not as an adult. I was 7 when we lived in the same complex, while he was working on Star Trek, as Portmaster Stone, {'67}. He was sO good to me, a pesky little 7 yr. old girl, always begging him to stay down at the pool, jusst a liiittle lonnngerr, whichh, he often didd, always willing to help me learn to breath under water, and my swimming strokes.. I'll always remember his boundless patience, and his gentleness..a delightful memory, he~

I loved Eartha Kitt's voice, her poise. And Percy's voice **sighh**..He was such a gentleman. So masterful.. and a kind, gentle, and tolerant man in person to boot. One of the finest influences, if only but for a number of months, in my young childhood. He left an indelible mark on me, indeed.
