Practice, practice, practice is the best thing to do. Just find a song you wanna learn and sit down with it and try and figure it out by ear, and if you can't figure it out, use tabs. Eventually just try harder and harder songs.
And write your own music too of course, haha.
That's how I tought myself. :D
