Doing my first partial mash this weekend. Nervous and excited

It's probably been said before, but you need to break the yeast a few days earlier to let it bloom.

The little one sounds exactly like Steve Zahn.
2lbs of rye and 1lb of crystal.
Why did you guys not just use grain bags for those? That would have been more efficient and easier to steep the grains in 3-4 gallons of water for about 30 minutes at 150F-170F.

You live you learn. My latest effort a American Imperial Oatmeal Stout had 9lbs of specialty grains and was steeped in a grain bag. Its conditioning on oak now, but it smelled wonderful. The fermentation was so strong a blowoff tube was needed in a 6.5 Gallon carboy!
