The magician attempts to show his audience a new card trick with five red cards. He displays the cards back and front. However, the audience notices that one card in the spread is black.

Acting embarrassed, he removes the black card and starts again, this time with four red cards. Suddenly, another black card appears. Again, he removes the black card and starts again. He continues until he only has one red card left. This single card also changes to black! The magician gives up and says, "It is impossible to perform the trick with five red cards."
