Spreading agricultural lime to raise the alkalinity in a pond using a lime barge. Applied at a rate of 6 tons per acre.

  • We are adding agricultural lime in this video. Typically we apply 4-6 tons per acre but we can add more than that and it would not harm the fish. Quick/Slacked lime can kill fish if you are not careful because it can change the pH very drastically which will kill the fish. Also quick/slacked lime does not last very long where as agricultural lime will last for 3-5 years depending on how much is applied. We lime ponds to raise the alkalinity levels which make fertilization efforts more effective.
