Dean Filstrup discusses the changes that have occurred to public spaces within libraries and their progression toward a learning commons. Computers are replacing stacks as the repository of information. More demand in courses and in the real world for group collaboration has led to the development of group study spaces where students can interact around enabling technology and furniture. Matt Froehlich describes the equipment contained within these group facilities. Students can work at a single shared computer within restaurant style booths, practice presentations on interactive digital white boards, and meet to discuss projects or other class material.
