I have loved this song since the day it was released in 1959. Of all of his songs, this was his best. J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) was an outstanding performer. He knew what we liked!

An amazing voice who knows how big he could have been had it not have been for that plane crash.

OK...it talks about "someone"...or as I refer to him...God!...which I know is not PC today...you can understand the lyrics...plus you can hold your partner and dance to it...I'll give it a 98 Dick Clark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...just recently purchased a turn-table that works...can't wait to dig out this national treasure of an album and enjoy listening to this song..."Big Bopper's Wedding"..."White Lightning"... "Strange Kisses", etc...the Tunesmith

I agree with Retrogurl73 - Saw JPIII Saturday nite and this is the one song that made me want to get home, get online and learn it. Have the lyrics now and this video for help. Thank you. Y'know - they shouldn't call it "The Day the Music Died". The music lives on. Now, more than 50 years later, it's hard to find a kid who can't sing along with the songs by Buddy, JP and Riitchie.

Such a sad lovely song. His son sounds just like him when he sings this on John Mueller's WDP tour tribute. He sang with tears in his eyes. J.P. Junior also said in an interview "The Big Bopper was just a character. It was nothing like my father. The song someone watching over you, that was my dad, that was J.P. Richardson & that was from his heart. Songs like the big bopper's wedding, was his way of humor. His character was how he delt with things in humor." ...Sadly he never met his dad :(
