Holi Festival

Some highlights from the celebration of Holi in Dublin, March 2011. Sponsored by Fossett's circus, held in the circus big top. We were treated to an evening of dancers from Punjab & Kerala, drummers, samosas to die for (and lots of other food), plus a surprise performance by Fossett's circus (not included here).

My friend Sue (who's from Kerala) explained to me that, in the Kerala dance (performed in orange & white costumes) the movements and even facial expressions all have symbolic meaning and tell a story. So I reproduced it here, almost in its entirety, for her!

Purists, however, will note that sometimes the music doesn't match the movements etc. - that's what happens when you have only one camera and have to edit afterwards for brevity and style.
