Beware of Giftcard Scams This Holiday Season

Many consumers all across the country are finding that the gift cards they've been given have already been spent.

Thieves target gift cards that are out in the open and within reach at retail stores. Typically, they write down the series of identifying numbers or use a scanner to lift information from the magnetic strip. Sometimes, they may even swap activation stickers attached to the outside packaging, so that a consumer buys one card but is actually activating the one possessed by the scam artists.

Before you buy a gift card be sure to examine the packaging for tampering and be wary of purchasing them online. That way you dont fall victim to a bait and switch scam.
