  • Victoria, I stand up over and over when I see this work of yours...

You are an awesome critic of Art, besides your skills

    as a painter, of course.

Well, I have to admit that Rothko captures me like an abduction.

  • @marta0478 how kind of you - thank you so much, and I appreciate your love of art - Vicky

  • Really enjoyed the video. Been lucky enough to visit his major works in London and New York. One has to see his works for real to really appreciate what a great artist he was.

  • thanks, chizulch4 - your comments really got me thinking, which is always a good thing ; )

  • I can't argue with that, vtg60.

  • (Continued) I just sat on a bench in front of a one of his more colorful paintings (sorry, don't remember the title), and as I looked at the painting, the areas and edges of each color just seemed to vibrate with a soft intensity. It just happened, and it was a special experience for me...one that had a great impact in my development as a young artist...opened the door for me to experience other types of non objective art, and I'll always be grateful for that.

  • (Continued) I never approached his work on an intellectual basis - I just experienced something powerful the first time I saw in it person...I guess what bored you "spoke" to me in a way no other work had before - it was very personal.

For me, it was not just color on canvas, but how the colors seemed to glow and shimmer off the canvas - at least the ones that I saw in person. And I had no particular interest in Rothko before I encountered his work in person for the first time.

  • That is the thing about art (especially art like Rothko's)...that two people can see the same work of art and have totally different reactions. I think that is part of the mystery of art. If you find Rothko boring, there is probably no way that I could change your feelings. And on the other hand, your experience of Rothko's work won't change my love for his work either.

  • I also saw the Rothko exhibition at the Tate. Boring! Just reading the statements of Rothko, Newman, et el ( as shown in the above video) makes me cringe with embarrasment for these guys who actually thought they were making interesting art.

  • Thanks so much, suppleline!
