Brian and Justin's break-up of Season 2 was needed because up until this point Brian still treated Justin like a child not an equal and Justin needed to experience the cheesy romantic love that Ethan could often and Brian would never gave. Brian learnt the hard way that Justin is not Michael, Michael always made excuses for Brian and went along with his bullshit but Justin is more confident and may leave at any point if Brian doesn't treat him right.

This is one of the nails that sealed the coffin in the BJ relationship in season 2. The break-up was inevitable and should have happened, otherwise, Brian would keep shutting down like this and Justin would keep on feeling like a shitty rag. When they got back together, they were more equal and actually treated each other better.

Totally agree! That's why I like Justin more than Micheal, cause he is such a brave and confident kid, always knowing what he wants and then goes for it. That's why Justin could save Brian's ass a couple of times(two seriouse lawsuits Brian involved into) and Micheal could not.

When it comes to Brian it always has been career first, love second (if love HAD to be in the equation). Why do you think he so readily let Justin go to NY? Because he didn't love Justin? Of COURSE he loved Justin - who can deny that? But because he believed that Justin's future was worth more then he was.
