Bright Star is a 2009 film based on the last three years of the life of poet John Keats and in particular his romantic relationship with Fanny Brawne. The film's title is a reference to a sonnet by Keats named "Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art", which he wrote while he was with Brawne.

  • Such a BEAUTIFUL film.. The scenery, all the romantic, peaceful elements.

  • @kristinevaksa I agree. Beautiful in it's understated portrayal of such a tragic story. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about Keats dying thinking he was a failure, never to know what an impact his poetry was to have on the world.

  • Could you please tell me the name of the song on the trailer?

  • @beca721 This particular piece was never released in the soundtrack. Track numbers 1 and 7 contain the running 'tune' in this trailer, though slightly different. The whole soundtrack is great, actually. Just search 'Bright Star soundtrack" on YouTube :-)

  • I discovered the joy of reading only after leaving school (which destroyed any possible interest in the subject) when I went to night school to get an O level in English. My teacher then was an inspiration and we read Keats. I thank both men everyday when ever I pick up a book. I, too, lived near Hampstead (Islington) and made it to Keats' house once. His lock of hair was so moving.

  • @andrewnorris2 I admire your dedication, I suppose night school has a much more civilised environment than a typical London secondary school. I lived in Islington for 7 years prior to emigrating. Next time I go back on a holiday I will definitely visit Keats House again, the experience will mean so much more now.

  • Ben Whishaw as John Keats is the perfect casting decision ... such a glorious film, and so sorrowful. If only Keats could have known the amount of love people feel for his work hundreds of years after his death! For one "whose name was writ in water," this film is especially meaningful. <3

  • Our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought

    - P.B. Shelley ( Ode to a Skylark)

Of course this movie is beautiful. It's beautiful because it's tragic..

  • I like this trailer the best because it's the only trailer that doesn't try to treat this like a normal film. The international trailer tries to appeal to all audiences by making this look like a simple love story film that anyone can enjoy, but it really, honestly isn't. It's a difficult film with older language and mannerisms which, taking that into account, mixed with the tragic ending, wouldn't be enjoyable for most audiences.

  • Watching Bright Start is like to relive every moments when you were first in love; all were sweet and beautiful except the pain and that it had to end.

  • @beca721 the song is called "to build a home" from "the cinematic orchestra" - the CD is called "fleur". Enjoy, its a beautiful song and great CD!
