Another LOUD thunder clap

Just another thunderstorm that I decided to film. I wish that I'd been pointing the camera in the direction of the strike, but alas...all you get is a deafening *boom.* Although you can't see it too well in the video, one of the trees at the top of the hill to the left were hit. I'm assuming that this is why the strike was so loud.

The thunder clap...the big one...was very loud and startling. But, after that one, I noticed it all got quiet and only the rain was coming down. What happened to the thunder after the big one?

For the most part, that clap was the only *big* one. It continued (the thunder) to rumble loudly for another 15 or 20 minutes after this video was taken.

radio tower? OH..that thing..no, thats an analog tv antenna...provided to us by our horribly cheap, horribly alcoholic ex-landlady lol. We don't live there anymore (thank God)..though we could see the storms better there than where we are now.

@XxlingmaoxX What I have done with all my dogs is when a storm comes I say "gooddddd, it's ok..yay.... whohew" in a high pitched voice. Over time and consistency they accepted it and never ran from a storm or the noises they produced.

Most loud claps of thunder happen during the Apex of the thunderhead (when the top of the storm is right in your area). After the apex leaves the area, the storm starts to calm a little but can still have a few small flare-ups... especially in between cloud-bursts...
