Trois pistoles literally means three pistoles, it is in fact also a town in Quebec. Great beer.

Let me tell you guys, you know beer more than a lot of other beer-tasting-folks on youtube, let me tell ya!
By the way, I'm from that place, Trois-Pistoles
-
I'm aware, but the town itself was actually settled by Basque whalers and the "story" is the river was named Trois-Pistoles when an officer lost 3 gold pistoles in the river, and of course the town got its name from river. Btw I like the vids.

Pistoles was a unit of currency, a Spanish gold coin.

true it is a spanish coin. Though Unibroue beers are usually French names. Trois Pistoles is a town in Quebec, where Unibroue is made. thats where it gets the name.
