In July 1989 I visited the 20in gauge Shipley Glen Tramway near Bradford in West Yorkshire. This is the Oldest working Cable Tramway in Great Britain. Opened in 1895 it is still open and is now manned by volunteers after being saved from closure by members of the Bradford Trolleybus Association. (http://www.glentramway.co.uk/)
My grandmothers family ran Shipley Glen Fairgrounds for many years and I rode this tramway many times. Thanks for the memories. It represents a magical place and time for me. Cheers!!!!!!

Good memories. I also remember the Aerial Glide as a kiddie with my Dad. Scared me to death... Thanks for posting this. Great stuff!

I used to go on this to the funfair and water garden, plus Baildon moor, at the top of the tramway when I was a child. My paternal grandparents were from Shipley and I went to school there until I turned five. Sadly we then moved to Essex . I am now 66, but thank you for the happy memories this has brought back.

Sounds like a real safe, well maintained piece of British engineering.
