Fort Desoto Kayaking Trip

This was my twenty mile day trip taken in May, 2011. I launched from the kayak trail inside the park and headed out Bunces Pass into the Gulf. I headed offshore and crossed the shipping channel to Egmont Key. The return trip was a little rough! I saw many dolphins and manatees. This is my first attempt at making a music video of one of my paddling trips. Please watch in HQ. Hope you enjoy! Music: Send me on my way by Rusted Root.

Hello sir, that is awsome! How long does it take to get from Ft.Desoto to the key? I would love to buy a Kayak and do this, just need some encouragement.

I'm actually a girl :) From the launch inside Ft Desoto to the tip of Egmont key is about 7.5 miles (1.5 hrs paddling time).You can also launch near the dog beach which is 2.3 miles (40 min) and follows the shipping channel. I crossed at slack tide to avoid strong currents. If you are new to paddling, I'd contact Sweetwater kayaks in St.Pete.They offer this as a group trip.They also have boats you can rent/buy. I hope you get to go! It is a lot of fun!
