"I always felt it was very naive for dance to say that a creation could occur or exist completely without any reference to the past. I think in any [other] art form, painting, literature, music, you would be laughed if you thought or presented the idea that you are presenting us an utterly contemporary [piece], absolutely divorced from any past references.".
