Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915)
Piano Sonata No. 5 Opus 53 (second part)
Piano: Vladimir Horowitz
Rec. 1976

''I call you to life, O mysterious forces!
Drowned in the obscure depths
Of the creative spirit, timid
Shadows of life, to you I bring daring.''

These are the words Scriabin took from his ''Poème d'extase''
to introduce this sonata!
The sonata has been called ''a glorious afterthought'' to the
''Poem of Ecstacy''. The work strives for a similar orgiastic
climax. The main expression in this work is ''birth'', the embryo
of life that finds audacity!

Listen and feel the wisdom in this work...

  • Love it! Horowitz and Scriabin are perfect together. Great channel, Starwalker.

  • @micheldvorsky Horowitz playing is Scriabin where two geniuses meet!

  • It is a greatest performance of Scriabin Sonata No.5 op. 53! Many, many stars!

  • I completely agree! All Horowitz' Scriabin recordings have no competitors, though I truly appreciate Richter and Sofronitsky and some others...

  • Yes, really nice! But we shoud be not so exclusivly....There is a lot of other pianist that we never had a chance to hear. Mybe thay play this peace much more interessting?!? So much we dont know, and we never hear of it!

  • @BOSOX9004 You should listen to the live recording from the 1974 Met recital, posted by kasyapa. I liked the official recording a lot until that one blew it out of the water. Much more potent.

  • In the world of concert pianists, there are the ones who are good, the ones who are exceptional, the ones who are phenominal, and then we have Horowitz all off in a category of his own.

  • thank you. I like!!!

  • The best interpretation of that sonata ever. Simply great!

  • Another bagful of gems in 2 min time
