When Glenn fry moved out to LA;had to meet jackson browne and JD souther at his apartment complex and developed a friendship especially with souther. Souther of course penned a hug part of new kid in town and other songs. The producers didn't feel frey had what it took to be a solo act but thought souther could be. I guess that was fortunate for frey and the fans cause we wouldn't have all those great songs :D Souther is highly underated and some of his best work is sung by other artists.
