An urban Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus), accompanied by two companions, sings a series of "chicka-de-de-de" songs. Not award-winning videography, but the bird's songs and actions are captured well enough. The chick-a-dee call is apparently used in many situations: This includes an alert call to group members, to attract a male or the rest of the dissimulation and to coordinate the flock's movements. These birds seemed to be calling to each other, and perhaps were referring to me, though most chickadees in an urban environment are generally acclimated to humans. It seemed to me that the birds were engaged in play, or some kind of pecking-order dispute.
