Whew, that is a tough one. You are right, most programs and services are geared for the older person and the more traditional illnesses like parkinsons and alzheimers. Your husband qualifies for disability benefits, and with that comes Medi-Cal (assuming that he has no income and very little savings). With that you can get his medications, and some other small services. You can also, have him placed in Skilled Nursing Facility and Medi-Cal will care for him the rest of his life...

I am 30 years old, and I NEED HELP caring for my 39-year-old husband suffering from Wernike-Korsakhov Syndrome as a result of severe alcoholism. Since he is so young, and since he "did it to himself," I have no one to rely on for support. Can you please address issues for younger caregivers? Elderly patients are more accepted; there is simply NOTHING for us. His symptoms are very similar to Alzheimers.
