Picked up this VFD for $4.50 from Skycraft in Orlando, Florida. It's a product of NCR apparently used in some of their old point of sale machines. The device accepts 8-bit ASCII commands over RS-232 and is powered by 12VDC at 500ma. The display is 2 rows x 20 characters with 5x7 pixel characters. The part number on the board is CU20028SCPB-T22C.

The video displays ASCII chars 26-255. I'm only showing 26 and up because ASCII codes lower than 26 contain either a command or no function.

Here's a wiki explaining more info on the VFD:

  • How often do you go to Skycraft? I am actually going there tomorrow.

  • I go when I can. Usually on the weekend because of work. But I've actually gone every Saturday for the passed 3 weeks. The place is just incredibly fun to explore.
