I'm an atheist. I also believe a lot of the things Glenn Beck says. So yes I take a lot of shit from a lot of people lol. You guys need to understand that it's the Rabbi who is being the ass in this video, not Beck. Glenn Beck does that little laugh and smirk in the beginning more than likely because he realizes that it's obvious that atheists have contributed to society. Notice how the full clip of the interview doesn't even play. Glenn probably went on to address what the rabbi had to say.

but you're missing the point,

while there are alot of possibilities in the universe a thought is the product of a brain (even an artificial one if you want to take the transhumanist approach),

A Thought is the chemical and electrical response to stimulation under certain situations, a thought needs a brain, you can't have a thought without a brain.

thats why an entity like this "god" character is scientifically impossible.

If i started listing all the supposed impossible things man has achieved, i would never leave my computer.

You should look into transhumanism and a guy named Ray Kurzweil. It might be an eye opener for ya. This guy is no joke and has a pedigree most scientists would give their left nut to have.

Also look into Verner Vinge. Good stuff, I promise you that.

@commonsensrules alien life and a consciousness without physical form are completely different things, we KNOW life can occur if the conditions are right and we KNOW the universe is incredibly vast, this makes the chance of alien life highly likely,

however we KNOW thought cannot exist without a brain to think it.

its not a maybe, its not chance, its just impossible.

Do not be mistaken, I am not saying it is possible. What i am getting at is that we cannot even understand the mechanism by which consciousness arose, much less the variations it may be able to take on.

To close the books on what is possible at this stage of our knowledge is unwise given how vast the possibilities and our universe appears to be.

Just because we can't percieve it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. As an example, Scientists are pretty sure alien life exists-they base that belief on circumstantial evidence and odds, but they cannot say more than it is likely. Is it illogical to consider silcon based life, and if so, wouldn't that in turn mean that life is not restrained by our definition of whats logical?
