In 2009, the Shirley Jackson administration of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute summarily fired the entire foreign languages staff, in what was widely believed to be a cost-cutting measure. In this typically-tortured response, Shirley explains how this is really part of a grand plan to marry the teaching of languages with cultural education. Apparently students will no longer be able to learn a simple tool, but the experience will eventually be so burdened with additional cruft as to be useless in RPI's intense time-constrained environment.
God, what a windbag.
