@retownsend NO. The way to treat any animal is with respect. If you want a sane horse that will keep calm and not give you a taste of your own medicine you use their own body language and the correct methods. There is no need to use any violence at all to train a horse. If you're looking for proof, look at the millions of horses trained by people like Daniel Sullivan, Pat Parelli and so on. The same goes for elephants. These animals are to freaking intelligent not to be treated right.

i'd hardly characterize any of this as abuse - when you are training a large animal, you have to use some force. same goes for horses

Stupid San Diego city council voted to let these obvious abusers keep on supplying the elephants to the Fair. Guess it helps to be blind if you want to serve on this particular board...Not to mention the useless A.Z.A. which keeps their certification active. Disgusting.
