Part 5 of 15, this section features the Gay Friendly Politician of the Year Award, including the list of nominees and recipients of the award, followed by their acceptance speech.

The Gay And Lesbian AwardS (GALAS) were conceived by the National Lesbian and Gay Federation (NLGF) to acknowledge the work of individuals and organizations around Ireland who work for the betterment of the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgendered community in Ireland. I stand for what I believe in everyday of my life, I have to. I have to be aware of bigots like you all the time. People who would deny me equal rights and those who would attack me and attempt to beat me up for the fact that I am gay. I don't need to stand for election to stand up for what I believe in. I live it everyday. It is not a 9 to 5 existence for me and any other gay man. You talk about being a man, try living in a world where that one person on the street might want to do you harm.

Koudos to Karl for accepting my challenge to meet face to face as I have challenged many other people on You Tube to do likewise but ALL declined.

We had arranged to meet in Dublin today but due to a problem at my end it had to be cancelled. However,we did get to speak to each other for more than an hour and a half on the phone.

We discussed a number of issues some we agreed on and others we disagreed on but overall, it was in my opinion, an hour and a half well spent

(2) In which I found Karl to be intellengt, articulate and a gentleman. Our conversation was not a battle of wills or one shouting over the other nor was it about winners and losers. I'm sure many people will be disappointed to hear that as they would have liked to see us tearing at each others throats but sorry folks it was the complete opposite. There was mutual respect on both sides and a willingness to listen to each others point of view. As I said an hour and half well spent.
