  • @3rosesred Yes, the kilt isn't just for Scots! It's a garment anyone can wear, just because it looks and feels great. Most kilts and highlandwear we make at Scotweb are for overseas customers, and many have no Scots ancestry at all. People just love to wear it, and love to be seen in it, and that applies whether you're Scottish or not.

  • @DeathsBite Absolutely! Wear it your own way, and do so with pride. Boots and a T, or a sweater can look amazingly sexy. You may find some idiot guys don't get it. But if you care what idiot guys think about anything you're wasting your life.... What's much more important is what the women think, and that's one of the best things about wearing a kilt. You'll find it a fabulous conversation starter, and women really do love it.

  • @youbetterbelievehah I'd agree "most" is stretching it, but the Scots and Scots Irish (a different group than the Irish) are two of the largest immigrant communities, numbering in tens of millions, so "few" is even less true. This is often overlooked, as they clustered less than most ethnic groups. They just went out and got on with working hard and doing well. They're reckoned to be the second most successful economic group in the US, and half of all US Presidents have had some Scottish blood.

  • @ThePoorhillbilly I think it's probably more named in his honour than historically accurate.

  • @meathookd Yes, but mostly you shouldn't have to as the sporran should hang easily on its own, or just looped over the buckles. In fact if the kilt is correctly made and you haven't lost weight you don't need a belt at all.

  • @alexkong21 The answer is either. What tartan you wear is a personal thing, and most people choose one for their own surname. But it's just as appropriate to honour your mother's side of the family.

  • @alexkong21 It's entirely your choice. Some guys do, some don't. But if you don't, be careful! Especially when dancing. You don't want to offend anyone.

  • @Violetisis It's not advisable to mix tartans in one outfit, as they'll clash. But there's another way... why not design your own new tartan! This is a fantastic idea for weddings, but could be done by anyone. You can combine the pattern and colours from each into a unique new tartan that reflects both sides of the family. Try it out at scotweb.co.uk/ tartandesign/

  • @TartanKiltsByScotweb That's true; I have Scottish ancestry, but my husband is Mexican/Spanish descent. After coming to a Highland Games w/ me, he became fascinated w/ Scottish culture, and wanted a kilt in my family tartan, which he has actually worn out on several occasions!

  • should i wear underwear under the kilt
