  • @badboyjeff031 Street is not a DOjo, the place you practice a DO. AikiDO doesn't exist outside a DOjo. In the street you do something else. So revise your definition of what a DO is and tell your students they are not learning aikido but a "fighting system" for self defence.

  • I believe OSensei would be turning in his grave if he knew that his Martial Art to bring people together is looked at as a joke to most all other martial artists out there.OSensei had trained vigorously for decades and was feared by so many til his dying day and only reached enlightenment after many near death experiences and real life battles.Without these we are just mimicking the end product without going through the forge.A decorative Katana instead of a real one.

  • I understand that there are many ways Aikido is taught and at the highest level it is about bringing peace to the world through harmony of oneself and others through that connection,but...the only way to bring peace is to have the power to kill and choosing not to so as to save a life.If you do not have this choice then you are like what Kisshomaru Ueshiba said Aikido with no core or tofu like aikido.Lack of solid basics. If you cant use it for self defense then do not call it a martial art.

  • I am both an instructor in Aikido and have fought amateur mma,and many of Endo Sensei's techniques are actually similar to Seagal Sensei's techniques but on a softer more refined scale.Look to Seagal Sensei for more street oriented material.I teach a street oriented Aikido at out Sarpy Aikido Club that utilizes the "aliveness"principle by JKD Matt Thornton where we do some contested technique to refine the application of our tech.

  • MrPinoy91, you're good at explaining things like this and it is true. Actually, what we are seeing right now is only a "demonstration of technique" and sad to say, some "other" human beings are comparing the art of aikido into their own radical way of fighting. I think even a grade school student can understand the word "demonstration" and the difference or real fighting. =)

  • Although I do have a problem with aikido not adressing their technqiues will not work all the time. I love masters who explain the truth of aikido clearly and how to deal with it when a technqiue doesn't work. You will find that the master in the video talked about below tries his best in tutorials to explain why things work in real situations.

Type this on youtube search: Seminar in Washington DC 09_Seishiro Endo Shihan

  • cool so where can i see aikido applied in a real situation to get an idea of how its all put together for self defence

  • don't look for how does this work in real life... because it won't work like this. of course this is only an idea and practice to understand what to do when you feel the force of your attacker non-stop.

if the attacker stop trying to push or use force on the sensei he wouldn't be falling like an idiot.

the practice is to recognize the feeling so when you have to use a techniqe the slightest feeling of pushing enrgy from uke can be used against him.

right now is only the case of recognition.
