I'm right there and hope Lesley and her partner are as happy as we've been allowed to be. We've come a long way . . . since, let's see, we were sweet 16 in 1964. It was a very good year!

She just found out she was a lesbian, and she found out she couldn't do what she wanted, namely go after other girls. Therefor she wished she was a boy, so she could get with girls and nobody would frown upon her.

Kinda sad she was so locked up in her taboo-filled time.
