He never plays dirty and is known for being a perfectly clean player. Callahan saw Doan last second and put his arm up to block a hit coming from a much bigger player. It was reflex. If Callahan didn't raise his arm up it would have been an [unintentional] hit to Cally's head since Doan is so much bigger.
