(NOTE: The footage is staticy, due to the fact I ripped footage from my dvd.)
I made this video as a tribute to Enishi and Kenshin. I truly think this song reflects both of these very poignant characters. Each one with a burden and a awful memory they carry on their backs, which causes them to lash out, even though in a odd way, they don't really mean it.
-Looking back at me I see
That I never really got it right-
As Kenshin looks back on his days as a killer, he sees that after all his struggles, and all he did, he still never really got what he was looking for.
-I never stopped to think of you-
While Kenshin went in his blood bathes, he never stopped to think of Tomoe and how she wanted him to stop killing, and change for the better
Enishi was so driven to kill Kenshin, he never stopped to think of how it would affect his friends and kaoru
-You are the antidote that gets me by
Something strong
Like a drug that gets me high-
Tomoe served as a drug to Kenshin. Something so powerful, it made him forget about his troubles as a killer.
-What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold to you-
Well, this is kind of self explanatory
-Maybe in a different light
You could see me stand on my own again-
In a different light (possibly referring to a different time, or accomplishing something much needed) Enishi could finally go on again, or Kenshin could feel content with his atonement, and let the past go
-I never really wanted you to see
The screwed up side of me that I keep
Locked inside of me so deep
It always seems to get to me-
Both of these figures are killers, in one way or another. However, Kenshin had the inside killer that he never wanted Kaoru to see.
-I never really wanted you to go
So many things you should have known-
Kenshin obviously never wanted Tomoe to go, or die. But it happened, and she never got to see him in a different way.
-I guess for me there's just no hope
I never meant to be so cold-
This refers partially to the undying hatred that Enishi feels, and powerful guilt that Kenshin feels. Both feel there is no hope, and we once again go back to Kenshin, and his journey of atonement
Thats only in the manga. Not the anime.
