Whitewater rafting -- Middle Fork of the American River--portage. The leap of faith is a sketchy dive across the current into an eddy to get to a boat that is stuck. Viewed from above, then viewed from river level, climbing up a large rock and then jumping 20 feet into the river below.

FYI, the portage takes 15-20 minutes. The guests often tell us that watching it is one of the highlights of the day. It's the safest, easiest way to do it.

@ droan999 and chicken316: if you've never been here and done the trip, don't talk shit about procedures that are proven safe and effective on OUR river. Are you guys even boaters? You should educate yourselves before you post bullshit comments. Props to jeffb444 for posting a good vid on how the portage is done!

the outfitter must love watching this!! Watch us throw your gear down the falls, then we will jump of rocks and swim upstream while the peeps watch, hopefully we will survive to raft the last three miles. this 'portage' has lasted an hour... good luck on a Saturday making your shuttle
