A state of emergency has been declared in southwest Michigan's Kalamazoo County after an oil pipeline sprung a leak in Marshall Township, releasing more than 800,000 gallons of oil released into a creek. The oil then made its way downstream in the Kalamazoo River. It's expected the oil could reach Lake Michigan soon. The spill has already been called the largest oil spill in the history of the US Midwest.


The governor said the eight boom sites were a fraction of the 20 boom sites that she was told by the EPA would be in place - along with more vacuum trucks and skimmers. Granholm said the oil has reached Morrow Lake between Kalamazoo and Galesburg, some 35 miles, and could reach Lake Michigan without more intense containment measures. The Coast Guard, she said, has been called in to assist with the spill.

Thank you so much for putting yourself out and talking about this. Because there are so many reports with different stats and it's great how you organize it and tell us the difference between realistic and non realistic news.

Im from racine WI...and I live by the lake and with 35 miles taken out by the oil in 2 days in the klamazoo river, why wouldnt it reach the lake...I hear nothing of this on the actual television, not much of a surprise either...

@laurenjean141 I always try to figure out the BS from facts in every video. With the gulf oil crisis, it's harder to do that because we only get the national perspective with just a tiny bit of word of mouth truth. There hasn't been much national coverage on the MIch spill, you're right. I tell everyone to prepare in a manner of survival because we never know when it's going to be in our backyard. It doesn't have to be a war or martial law, it can be anything!!  So be ready at all times!!
