i don't recall ever seeing him tap, and i have seen a lot of malmsteen videos. of course michael drew influence from yngwie, just about every neoclassical guitarist has from jason becker to rusty cooley to jeff loomis. he has a similar vibe, but if you play the same genre as somebody else you are going to have a similar vibe unless you throw most attributes of that genre out of the window and michael doesn't.

Alexi = i think more variety
Michael = Better I love em both since alexi was my inspiriation to start working on technique and i love michael neo classical stuff, since i also play classical guitar its really good. Helps in learning scales in stuff too.
