Sum of the most breathtakin & gorgeously intricate background set designs ever in a film. So rich R the colors & exquisite details in this movie, that it requires multiple viewings just 2-B able 2 soak it all in. Then it will become obvious that the sets are not a distraction but an enhancement 2 the story. An enrichment that adds 2 the dialogue with an intensity that allows the ideas of what appears 2-B human pettiness behavior in a royal setting 2-B revealed as much grander in scope & concept.

It's a good movie, but not a good martial arts movie. The fights aren't as good as Hero or House of Flying Daggers, let alone some of the all time greats of Wuxia cinema.

I think he never really loved her anyway.I think he mentioned that he married her because of her lineage and also towards the end he reveals that he knew of her affair with her step-son. Since he's quite a cruel and vindictive character it wouldn't be odd for him to want to torture her in such a way.

The marriage wasn't voluntary like most of the marriage of emperors in Chinese history, the empress (usually first wife) has to be of royalty or superior background. They never love each other, but I can't remember what exactly was the reason for the emperor to poison the empress, was it have something to do with the empress' family background?

if you havent watched this movie then your missing out... lets jus say i rate this movie better than most of jet li and jackie chan movies, cuz ive seen them ALL!!

this movie has great picture, fierce battles and a cruel plot that will blow your mind.

You be like, "Daaaam that movie was crazy."
