When both candidates are owned by the same corporate interests is there really a choice? When we elect candidates based on promises and when in office they do the exact opposite of what they promised can we still call it a democracy? When politicians, corporations and law enforcement don't have to obey the same laws they impose on us can we still call it a republic? When we are constantly told what to do and what not to do can we still call ourselves free?

@hint0122 we would be able to look at the results and see that people are making informed decisions, just like today, we can see. clearly, that people are NOT well informed, and poll after poll conveys this ubiquitous ignorance.

I am NOT trying to brainwash everyone to be a leftist. I believe many conservatives would remain conservative, even if they studied. I just want people to be able to BACK UP their opinions with solid history and knowledge.

It's not about the LEVEL of education a person achieves-but what knowledge and understanding they receive. For a person to be an informed voter, the more history and political science they understand, the easier the job will be.

Ideally, we wouldn't even need kids to go to college to get this info- which SHOULD be taught in our k-12 system.

It isn't- to any acceptable degree.

@hint0122 "not everyone in society needs to be well educated" Really? How then is that janitor supposed to be an informed voter if he doesn't know history? Even a janitor is a voter in a system of representative government with near universal voting rights.

Should a dishwasher be uneducated?

Again, how would he be able to perform his civic duties, in a representative republic, without knowing any history?

Our system depends entirely on an informed, educated electorate- that's why it's broken

what are you talking about? yes I am a capitalist since I like having and spending my money that i work for. not everyone in society needs to be well educated. should a janitor have a BA? should a dishwasher have a masters? When too many people have degrees and not the jobs to use them, you get nothing. It is not in my best Interest because we live in FREE society, where everyone has freedoms. I don’t care how fat you are, if you smoke or drink, nor should you care how fat I am.

It is in YOUR selfish interest to see that our society is as well educated as possible

The same goes for health. It is in YOUR interest to help make sure everyone is as healthy as possible

First off, its not health care reform, its government taking over healthcare. my point is, I shouldn’t have to pay for someone elses health care when I don’t have any control or input over their well being. Should you pay for my health care when I eat out every day and drink and smoke? I pay for my inceance, which I control with eating right, not smoking, and exercising. You think education should be a right. Then I want to be a doctor, and I want you to pay for it.
