http://www.BKWineTours.com *Come on a Wine & Food Tour with us!* --- Interview with Denis Degache from La Cave de Crouseilles, who tals to us about the wines and vineyards of this wine region in the sout-western part of France. Language is French.

Madiran is an appellation that spreads over three departements : Pyrénées Atlantique, Hautes Pyrénées, Gers

Red wine: Madiran
White wine: Pacherenc de Vic Bilh
Rosé: Béarn Rosé

Main grape varieties:
Red: tannat
White: petit manseng
And also: gros manseng, ruffiac, petit corbu

Generally full-bodied wines with lots of fruits. The appellation has developed much since some decades ago; one can almost talk of a renaissance of the region. The wines have been categorised in three groups - from a marketing perspective and to make it easier for the consumer.

Madiran Tendence - with lots of young and fresh fruit
Madiran Tradition classic Madirans, full-bodied with good structure and tannin
Madiran de Fête the great wines needing aging in the cellar to develop

Some names to remember: La Cave de Crouseilles, one of the cooperatives, Château de Mascaraas, 1907, Folie du Roi, Viella Fontanilla, Altéus,

  • The wines from this co operative are wonderful ! In particular the L'Hivernal, a beautiful dessert/moelleux wine. The Comte D'Orion is also great ! Their madiran wines are superb - try them !
