  • I think you need to re-calculate and make your chimney about 50 ft higher !!!

  • @MarvinLStohs My original calulations were to have one 70 plus feet so you're comment is in the ball park

  • Very Nice.

Question 1. How did you secure the fiberglass in place?

Question 2. You said that the air intake was in proportion to the flue size. How do you calculate that? Is there a special ratio?

  • @righty1230 Thank you, I used stove gasket cement. It comes in a tube and is in paste form. I temporarily adhered it and then came back and added stainless steel bands to hold it securely in place. The flu exit hole is measure by square inches and then the air inlet is made the same.

  • Nice work zellph! . That's a giraffe of a flu pipe. made one of these several years ago, following Bill Masons design. Suggestions, add a double bottom 2 get fire off the body. Make a hole in the top with a hinge flapped lid to fit your med/lge billy pot. After fire gets going, Insert pot so that flames lick it, water will boil quicker. By then pipe is hot and drawing so minimum smoke enters tent.

Question, what is the F/G tape inside for?

  • @hoz49 Thanks Hoz. Great idea about the hinged flap lid to heat bottom of pot. The fiberglass is for even distribution of heat so there would be no distortion on such a lightweight steel container. As is it is slow to heat up around its mid section. The ends radiate a lot of heat quickly. The flu pipe is too small in diameter, need to go to a 2 inch. I'll have a part #2 video today hopefully to show the next 2 tests done yesterday.

  • Very good job

  • Nice build - very clean. The insulation may be keeping the heat from radiating and you may be using a lot of heat through the flue. I would like to build one just like yours but I may try to do it without using insulation but put a steel plate near the top so the flames will hit it and not the top of the main shell. Thanks much for this video

  • Nice stove.
