  • Henrik Svensmark is the man!

  • 62.5 M years is correct if our solar system was static and the galaxy was moving around us. But, the solar system is also moving. If you are standing still on a racetrack, and it takes a car 63 seconds to lap you, if you speed up to about 40% the other car's speed, it will take 150 seconds for the car to pass you.

  • The guy is a hero, nothing less, to pursue your ideas in the face of such virulent opposition takes balls.

  • @abvmoose87

I meant to say: since there are spiral arms of "Solar Systems"

  • What I get don't about this. Our solar system is rotating around the galaxy but isn't the stars in the spiral arm also rotating around the galaxy? Shouldn't our position be pretty stationary since there are spiral arms of galaxies? Or is our solar system rotating alot faster or slower than all other starsystems in the spiral arms?

  • Short term climate change is dependent on the fluctuations in output from the sun, which seems to be well proven.

If this group of Scientists are right, then long term fluctuations in our climate is dependent on the position of our Solar System in relation to the Spiral Arms of our Milky Way Galaxy!

  • The current posittion of opur solar system is actually in a small "armlet" between major spiral arms.

  • I think he was just pulling some number out of his booty. Just estimating for example.

  • borat is that you

  • If there are four arms and the period of a complete galactic cycle is 250 million years (at 3:35 in video), how did the time between the arms come to be measured at 150 million years? (at 3:41 in video).

It would seem to me that the time between arms would be ~62.5 million years.

I've been quite impressed with everything he has said until this point. Now I can't trust anything he says until I can resolve the apparent contradiction.
