Would the death penalty system really curb spiralling crime rates in South Africa? The main Opposition party seems to think so?

  • English please!

  • @fullprof Life in prison or a life of crime is a win-win situation which inevitably the tax payer have to fund! People in prison get three squares a day, health care and so many benefits that thousands of law-abiding citizens can't even afford, but have to pay for criminals to have!!

  • And another thing - so many murders are committed by non-SAfricans (read illegal immigrants). They are not citizens of the country. Nor do SA citizens who behave like savages and kill innocent people (even babies) in cold blood deserve to be citizens of a civilized country!! They should be killed with the same callousness they displayed.

  • When did South Africa become a civilized nation???!!! I must have missed that!!

  • I agree wholeheartedly

  • South Africa must resist the rhetoric of those who believe that the death penalty offers general deterrence beyond that of life in prison. No civilized nation executes its own citizens.
