The Band busts out a surprise in Palo Alto CA, in 1976..And a great one at that! an old song Richard Manuel had wrote..His performance here is truly stunning, and the best recording I have of him. I like this better then the studio version..Why they didn't play this more often is a mystery..All I know is Richard Manuel lives on..

  • This sounds a lot better than I thought it would, given how awful Richard's voice sounded in a lot of the 1976 recordings.

  • @spotmaticfanatic Yeah he surprisingly sounds great here, about 1/3 of the 76' shows he sounds great! the other 2/3s not so much..He probably sounded his worse at The Last Waltz though.

  • This is amazing.

  • Saw them 27 times, first on July 1970-never got to see this one live. Or others like Whispering Pines.

  • Beautiful, deeply beautiful...

  • A great song and personal Band-fave of mine. Too bad this funky recording doesn't give a better representation of what was apparently a very cool performance -- but, hey, still good to hear and some beautiful moments still shine through.
