I agree with all your comments. Sting must be proud Johnny covered this song and turned it into what it should really sound like.

Sting has a light airy voice that couldn't bring out the emotions behind the words, Johnny's world weary deep voice is just perfect. I'm sure Sting himself would admit this is the definative version, just like Trent Reznor admitted 'Hurt' is now Johnny Cash's song. Johnny didn't cover those songs, he made them his own.
