hey - loved the take-off! I am planning to put an 85 horse 2300 cc direct drive VW from great plains on a Rans S6 - very similar to the Skyranger - how do you like the VW?

This engine is 1835cc direct drive VW with
59" wooden prop. The TOW at tis takioff was about 860lb, the OAT was 80F. Certainly not bad.
This plane is extremely economic as the average fuel burn is under 3gph,the complete powerplant costs less than Rotax 582 and has quite nice grunt.
Of course, if we'd chose 2300cc, the performance would be much more impressive, but this configuration indeed offers the best overall value including cost effectivity.
